Sewing Theme Stationery

A few years ago I picked up this adorable stationery set. Little did I know that I would move across the country from my family and get really into sewing!  It’s called Hemlines and its made by Chronicle Books.13589970123_65c8792db5_z

The writing paper is printed on one side with a vintage pattern, and the other side is blank. I use the blank side to write on because the print side would be hard to read. It also has coordinating envelopes and stickers!

Here are all of the designs. They are actually quite cute. If I had the patterns I would make them.13590317624_0c849010ef_zIt seems like it might be out of print, but you may be able to locate it somewhere!

Fabric Shopping in Honolulu

Last week I was in Hawaii with my family celebrating my parents’ 40th anniversary. So of course Natalie and I had to do some fabric shopping. We ended up driving by Fabric Mart on our way back from driving around the island. Luckily they were open until 7pm so we had time to go back to our hotel in Waikiki and take a quick shower before we went back to shop.

Fabric Mart has a parking lot, which is great because street parking in this area is a bitch. Once you walk in the store you see tons of Hawaiian print fabric! It was around $6/yd for cottons and $4/yd for poly cotton. They also had rayons and prints. The whole front of the store was really dedicated to Aloha fabric.

Besides your typical Hawaiian prints they had a lot of novelty Hawaiian Prints. My sister and I both picked up 3 yards of this fabric.

They also had some funny stuff like this Asian styled Snow White fabric.

The store also had a lot of special occasion fabrics.

And a large section upstairs with quilting, fleece, and home decor fabric.

I ended up taking home 3 yards each of a novelty Hawaiian print and a more traditional but modern print. A post on my Hawaiian fabric haul is coming soon!

Le Petit Théâtre Dior

I adore these videos from Dior of making mini dresses for their Le Petit Théâtre Dior exhibition. I can’t imagine working in a couture atelier! So much time spent on making tiny flowers or sewing on sequins.

Tech Talk: Mobile Robot Printer

I came across a Kickstarter for the Mini Mobile Robotic Printer and I was intrigued.  Basically you plop this device on a piece of paper and it prints. As my sister described it, it’s a Roomba that prints ink instead of vacuums. However, what made me back this project is that it can print on any size paper! I own a ridiculous amount of digital patterns, and there’s little more annoying than having to cut and tape them together.  With this gizmo I’m hoping I can just cut off a sheet of paper from a roll, plop it down and let it go!

pocketprinterNow I know I can get my digital patterns printed at Fedex Office and the like, but the last one I got priced would have been $18! That’s more than I’d paid for the pattern.  So I will be excited to get my Mini Mobile Printer and see if my printing dreams come true.

My Quilt Guild

I love the third Wednesday of the month because its meeting night! I can’t wait to share all the projects I’ve been working on this month with the group of lovely ladies at the Jersey Shore Modern Quilt Guild. Our small group keeps growing every month, it is very exciting to have new members and so nice to see familiar faces each meeting.
